The Antico Convento dei Cappuccini is the home of three different activities that integrate and cooperate one with each other: Nosco, Mediterranean Food-and-Wine School, Cenobio, the didactical restaurant and the Antico Convento Hotel.
The original project, the one of the Mediterranean Food-and-Wine School, was set by the will of the Bishop of Ragusa to combine different aims: from one side to add value to an extraordinary cultural XVII century building, a very rare evidence of the period previous to the earthquake, to give it back to a public use; from the other the one to back the typical vocation of the land of Ragusa to be a place for “Mediterranean dialogues”- just to mention La Pira – that is the cultural exchange and confrontation in the Mediterranean area.
The main target of the project is a social one.
The main target of the project is a social one: the omen is that eventual profits coming from the management of the business can later on be reinvested in support of social and welfare projects.
Anyway, it’s not secondary the aim that this structure – a symbol of Ibla and maybe one amongst the most beautiful in Ragusa – become a driving force for the great Food-and-Wine tradition of a land rich in excellence, and can contribute to characterize and give value to Ragusa – and in particular to Ibla – under a cultural and touristic way.
The Foundation decided to put in charge of the business some high-profile local professionals: the management has been assigned to Enzo Scrofani for the hotel, to chef Giuseppe Barone for the kitchen and to Roberto Lacognata for the pastry production.
